I have had multiple sessions this week with teams from around the country and we have been talking about BHAGs and why they are important and how you can tell if you are getting close to a quality BHAG. Coined by Jim Collins, a BHAG is a clear and compelling long-term goal that galvanizes an organization. It’s not just about setting a target—it’s about creating a vision that is so bold and ambitious it inspires your entire team to push beyond their limits. Jim Collins discovered that companies with BHAGs consistently outperformed their competitors. Why? Because a BHAG provides a clear, unifying direction for everyone involved.

Let’s rewind the clock a bit to see a BHAG in action. In 1962, President John F.
